Phil Parkinson has quickly moved to boost his thinbare defensive options by signing Tom Naylor on loan from Derby County for two months.
The 21-year-old right back/centre back began his career at Mansfield Town and has previously attracted interest from the likes of Leeds United and Preston. Derby County signed him almost a year to the day ago, in a loan move that was made permanent in January. Naylor made eight appearances at right back last season, but has so far failed to make an impact in the first team this time around.
Naylor’s arrival is a welcome boost for Parkinson, who goes into this weekend’s game against Exeter with Rory McArdle and Stephen Darby carrying knocks, and James Meredith joining Luke Oliver and Andrew Davies on the sidelines. Subject to the proper clearance going through, Naylor will be thrown straight into first team contention tomorrow.
