The Width of a Post podcast #54: The Pointon Monologues

The new Width of a Post podcast is now available!

As the new season gets firmly going, we take a look at the growing disquiet around Mark Hughes and the strategic direction he has taken the club on since the end of last season. Is he in trouble, or are there positive signs to take?

Also in this episode of the podcast, Jason McKeown, Tim Penfold and Alex Scott look at:

  • Flippin’ three at the back – is it going, or will Hughes stick with a plan few seem to like?
  • All aboard the rollercoaster – so far, City have been up and down in terms of results and performances, what’s there to be encouraged/worried about?
  • 11 ins – okay then, it wasn’t a quiet transfer window after all, so what do we make of the new-look squad?
  • Jake Young outscoring everyone – and how it reflects on Bradford City.
  • We heart Bobby Pointon!
  • Your questions for Tim and Alex – with lots of talk about Donovan Ricketts and Omar Daley!

You can listen below on Soundcloud and it is also on iTunes:

  1. Not a chance. He has tunnel vision and we are doomed to watch football as boring as Don Revies Leeds.
More worryingly he reviews terrible performances with words like ‘satisfactory’ and ‘happy with that’.
Serious contenders for promotion should be beating teams by 2 or 3 goals not struggling to get draws at VP.
    Should be a fortress.

  2. Just listened to podcast, some interesting thoughts. You mentioned City players not progressing into first team regulars. I can remember 3 strikers who were prolific at reserve and junior levels but never made it at first team level. Tibor Szabo, late 70’s. Scored a goal on his debut, I think. Went non-league and scored a lot at that level. Last heard involved in soccer schools in the US. John Hanson, don’t where he ended up. The 3rd player, Danny Forrest. Hopefully Pointon will go onto be a top class “one of our own”.
Fun players? George Kulscar, I enjoyed watching him. Could you describe Don Hutchins as a fun player? If so, he was fun and a winger to be reckoned with.
Good luck to the lads for Saturday, may this game be the turning point of our season. Will tune in via BBC and T&A blog.

  3. Jason, I’ve been struggling to leave a post. By chance “Log in to leave a reply” has appeared (God knows how?), after many attempts .Why have you changed from the straight forward process that previously applied ie, type your message and press “Reply”?

    • Hi Steven

Nothing has changed so not sure what happened there. Hopefully you are sorted now?

      Jason

      • Just had same problem again! Previously the “Reply” was highlighted, you typed your message, enered email address and username, and pressed “Reply”.

Now it’s not highlighted, so you can’t send the message. However, on second attempt, just now, “Log in to leave a reply”has appeared, with three icons below. I’ve had to select the email icon to log in, and assume this message is transmitted. This “log in” message never appeared before. More often than not, it isn’t displayed so I can’t reply. It would be interesting if other readers have same problem. Thanks.

      • It looks like wordpress has done an update but I think I’ve fixed it so this is not a requirement. Let me know how you get on but should be okay now.

  4. Thanks!!! No problem now.

  5. Seems OK now. Thanks Jason
